Don't think about what you DON'T want or it will happen. Be careful what you wish for. Watch out because the universe is listening...
If you're at all interested in the topic of 'manifestation', you've most definitely heard the above manifestation rhetoric...and let's be real - it might be scaring the you-know-what out of you! Thankfully, the more you understand (truly & deeply!) how manifestation actually works (including how it doesn't) - the more you can put those silly fears aside and actually face the aspects of you that need looking at, so that you can properly heal them.
First off, a quick definition of "manifestation". I think the perfect person to share their take on this is Lacy Phillips, the current "manifestation expert" everyone loves learning from these days in her practical, actionable, and always DEEP online courses.
In an interview for Goop, Lacy explains it as so...
"My process of manifestation is essentially an exercise in getting back to our authentic selves and learning to live a life that reflects that.
From the moment we’re born, every single one of us receives societal programming: parental, media, peer. Very few of us have a true idea of what our authentic essence is and what it truly desires to thrive. Manifesting starts with taking deep inventory of that programming we’re raised with, then getting into your authentic essence and asking yourself what you truly want—and, finally, breaking the mold of what limits you from achieving that."
Okay, so what are the most common misconceptions on what it takes to "manifest"? This is important, because misunderstanding these subtleties could prevent you from even starting!
The one I want to focus in on for this post is the MYTH that: "If I have a negative thought, something bad will happen to me".
This is just pure FALSE FALSE FALSE: Rather than being fearful of our thoughts and feeling that we need to be positive 24/7, we need to instead harness our negative thoughts and feelings as key clues & sources to guide us. Once you’ve allowed yourself to feel your feelings fully, next ask where they might’ve stemmed from to find the root in order to heal it.
Note that the flip side is also true - AKA "I just have to think positive and things will come to me". Ummmm nope! While that would be nice, it’s simply not accurate. You can think positive all you want to, but if you’re not proactively taking aligned action and clearing old limiting beliefs and patterns, limited things will manifest for you.
So basically what I'm trying to drive home here is that we need to worry less about our manifestation going 'wrong' and instead focus on clearing out (by turning around) the limiting beliefs holding you back. Rather than just "shut them up and think positive instead", true value comes from learning the circumstances and thought patterns that created them in the first place. From there, you can essentially rewrite the script (alongside emotional intensity + consistency via neural reprogramming like in deep meditations) and BOOM you can essentially "unblock" what's trying to come through.
Because here's the thing: there's always good ready and willing to present itself.
