Frequently asked questions

What are Adaptogens?

Adaptogens are non-toxic plants that help protect the body from the impact of stressors through supporting the adrenal glands, which regulate our hormonal responses to stress. Stress? We all know it! Whether it’s physical, chemical, or biological, these superherbs work custom to YOUR body to help restore the balance of your internal systems so that you can get through the stress with less harm done (think: less inflammation and long term negative effects). Best of all, when stress stops, you can get back to “normal” faster and ultimately enjoy more resilience in your daily life. The ebbs and flows of life are essential, and a bit of stress is actually healthy - it’s the constant, chronic stress that we need to avoid and protect ourselves from. Adaptogenic herbs are our friends in this journey as they go into the body producing a bidirectional effect, which means they’ll bring you “up” or “down” depending on what you need in that very moment. It’s like magic...but they’re actually just (magical) plants! All sounds too good to be true - right?! Well, almost. Here’s the deal: in order to really reap the benefits of these herbs in your daily life, they need to build up in your system (think of it like an “adaptogenic reserve” you can pull from when required) - and that means taking them daily. Yes, like everyday. How? Adaptogens usually come in the form of powders, teas, or tinctures. None of these things are super fun to take religiously...and hence - AdaptoGems were born!
